Have a valid Yale University email address (@yale.edu) OR be an approved community partner Maintain your Yale affiliation while using the Service (for Yale users).
Have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement.
We reserve the right to verify your eligibility at any time and may suspend or terminate accounts that do not meet these requirements.

3. Account Registration and Security

You may create an account using Google Sign-In with your Yale email address. Your display name is automatically generated from your Yale email and cannot be changed. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

3.3 Google Authentication
By using Google Sign-In, you also agree to Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. You can revoke Village's access to your Google account at any time through your Google Account Settings.
4. User Conduct and Prohibited Activities
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You will NOT:
Post false, misleading, or fraudulent content or listings.
Harass, abuse, or threaten other users.
Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity.
Violate any Yale University policies or applicable laws.
Attempt to circumvent security measures or access unauthorized areas.
Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to access the Service.
Use the Service for illegal activities or to sell prohibited items.
Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers.

5. Transactions and Payments
5.1 Marketplace Transactions
Village facilitates transactions between users but is not a party to these transactions. Buyers and sellers are solely responsible for fulfilling their respective obligations.
5.2 Payment Processing
All payments are processed through Stripe. By making payments through the Service, you agree to Stripe's Terms of Service.
5.3 Payment Holds
We use a payment hold system to protect both buyers and sellers. Funds are held until both parties confirm transaction completion. We reserve the right to release or withhold funds based on our dispute resolution process.
5.4 Fees
Village covers all payment processing costs for student transactions. Students pay exactly the listed price with no additional fees. Sellers receive their listed price in full with no deductions. We reserve the right to modify our fee structure with advance notice.
6. User Content
6.1 Your Content
Village facilitates transactions between users but is not a party to these transactions. Buyers and sellers are solely responsible for fulfilling their respective obligations.
6.2 Content Responsibility
You are solely responsible for your content. You represent that you have all necessary rights to post your content and that it does not violate any third-party rights or applicable laws.
6.3 Content Moderation
We reserve the right to remove, edit, or disable any content that violates these Terms or that we deem inappropriate, without prior notice.
7. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, features, code, and content (excluding user content), is owned by Village and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on the Service without our express written permission.
8. Dispute Resolution
In case of disputes between users, Village provides a reporting system to help mediate issues. We may investigate disputes and take actions including:
Releasing or withholding held funds.
Issuing refunds at our discretion.
Suspending or terminating user accounts.
Reporting illegal activities to appropriate authorities.
Our decisions on disputes are final. For matters not resolved through our internal process, users agree to resolve disputes through binding arbitration or small claims court.

You may delete your account at any time through your account settings. Upon deletion, your profile and content will be removed, but transaction records may be retained as required by law.

9.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Pending transactions may be completed or cancelled at our discretion. Any funds owed to you will be paid out according to our standard payout procedures.
10. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, VILLAGE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY.

Village is not responsible for the quality, safety, or legality of items or services listed, the truth or accuracy of listings, or the ability of buyers and sellers to complete transactions.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Village, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
12. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Connecticut, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any legal action arising from these Terms shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New Haven, Connecticut.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms on the Service and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
14. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
